**New for 2026, we are opening two girls only divisions (intermediate and senior)**

Format

The Co-Ed Pee Wee division is a 7v7 pass/run league.

The Girls Intermediate/Senior divisions are 7v7 pass/run leagues.

The Co-Ed Intermediate/Senior divisions are 7v7 pass only leagues, where every player is an eligible receiver.

All players that are 6-8 years old as of September 1st of the current year begin in our co-ed division, where boys and girls play together while learning the fundamentals of the game, teamwork, and sportsmanship in a fun, supportive setting.

Starting at age 8+ (as of September 1st of current year), girls have the option to transition into our Girls Only Flag Football divisions, which provide an empowering, all-girls environment focused on skill development, confidence, and competition.

2026 Illinois Jr Celtics Tackle Football

Pop Warner football has been around since the inception of the league in 1929. Since then, participation has steadily increased to today's record numbers for children ages 5-14 (age determined as of July 31st of the current year).

On fields across America, Pop Warner is continually making our game safer and better, while retaining what makes the sport of football so great for young people.

Pop Warner places value on safety measures that make a difference. That’s why we have also done things in football like reduce contact to 25% of practice time, eliminate kickoffs for our youngest divisions and require that any player who suffers a suspected head injury receive medical clearance from a concussion specialist before returning to play.

Players begin practicing on July 15 in preparation for their season openers, usually held during the last week in August or first week in September. A participant can be considered eligible for the season when he/she has met the four basic criteria for participation: A candidate must provide proof of age, parental consent, a medical examination, and academic fitness.

What makes Pop Warner unique as an organization is our commitment to academic excellence among our participants. A participant must maintain a 2.0 Grade Point Average/70 percent in school in order to participate during the season.

Additional Fees Can Include:

Bow and Team Gift Fees - TBD by coaches
Sideline Uniforms - TBD by coaches
Warm-Up Jacket (optional)
White Cheer Shoes needed - additional information will be sent out after registration closes
Black Nike Pro style shorts
White no-show socks
7th and 8th Grade Cheerleaders will have additional practice wear
If your athlete advances to the ICA State Competition, there will be an additional $165 fee

Sideline vs. Competition Cheer….What is the Difference?

Sideline Cheer:

• Practice with the team during outdoor practices and at games during football season

• Learn Sideline Cheer and a Small Halftime Routine

• Learn and Gain Cheer confidence - especially if your athlete is heavily involved in another activity but wants the cheer experience

Competition Cheer:

• Practice Schedule runs through the entire competition season

• Full Competition Schedule running through ICA State

• Camps and Clinics with your team

• Practices will consist of learning sideline cheers, stunting, tumbling, choreography of routine and dance

• This is the best spot for athletes who want to gain more skills, compete, and are committed to the team.
